Barack Obama and Joe Biden are a great combination of vision, hope and pragmatism. Millions of Americans - not just Democrats -- are excited about turning the page on politics as usual. They want to avoid personal attacks and get to a discussion of real issues.

Obama and Biden want to focus on strengthening the nation's economy by controlling government overspending, investing in "green collar" jobs, and rebuilding our nation's infrastructure. Obama and Biden believe that all Americans should have health coverage, a secure retirement and affordable prescription drugs. Obama and Biden will invest in supporting local efforts to strengthen education in America - knowing that the local leaders and educators can make the best plan for success.

Obama and Biden will strengthen our national security by investing in our military, making diplomacy a priority and by supporting efforts to control our borders, our ports and our immigration process. I look forward to serving Maryland's 6th District in Washington because we are tired of name calling and finger-pointing. We want action not avoidance. We need attention, not a lecture.

In Congress I will fight for new "green" investment in our district through my "Get Off the Grid" Plan and a bio-fuels refinery. We can't just give 50 speeches about running out of oil and expect that will change things.

I will fight to make the government budget process more like how we spend money in our homes, businesses and local governments. I want to control spending, reward results and limit wasteful spending. We can't make progress if interest payments suck the money out of infrastructure.

I will work for a rehab facility for our returning veterans and their families. They will need long-term care options and I can't think of a more welcoming community for returning veterans that Maryland's 6th District!

My opponent does not want to debate because then the media could compare his record and vision with mine. As Mayor of Frederick, I balanced 4 budgets, my opponent has balanced NONE! As Mayor, the City invested in new projects like Carroll Creek that laid the foundation for thousands of jobs. As Mayor, I never hid from the media, the public or my opponents.

It's too bad that Roscoe Bartlett won't debate the issues with me. He votes against the interests of our district when he supports efforts to privatize Social Security and Medicare or to keep children of working families from getting insurance. He cannot explain why, when his party controlled the White House and both houses in Congress, he voted to cut taxes and increase spending! He cannot explain why he would send our children, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives to war when he did not support the war. He cannot explain why he voted for tax breaks for oil and gas companies rather than stand up for a real energy plan.
